Air in Motion is a Sydney-based flute quartet that plays stream-of-consciousness jazz-infused group improvisations, sets poetry to music and performs compositions by composer-musician Keyna Wilkins. Flutes: Keyna Wilkins, Angus Mcpherson, Nicole Samsa and Isaac Lombard.
While classically trained at Bath Spa Uni and Bristol Uni (UK), Hildesheim Uni (Germany) and Sydney Conservatorium, Keyna has also taken conceptual improvisation classes from Tibetan musician Tenzin Cheogal and has branched into flamenco, jazz, and live theatre. Since immigrating to Sydney in 2009, she has performed in a diverse range of ensembles including opening Adelaide Fringe Festival with Flamenco Australia in 2012 and opening the Picasso exhibition at Art Gallery of NSW in 2011 with French noir trio Les Violettes. She plays flute in her own ensemble Ephemera whose debut album received rave reviews "Arresting, genre-blurring..Disquieting music with massive breadth and high drama. 4 STARS" John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald and were invited to feature at the Sydney Women's International Jazz Festival 2017. Many of her compositions have been published by Wirripang and have been performed around Australia and UK.
Angus McPherson holds a PhD in Flute Performance from Tasmania Uni, has performed around UK, USA and Canada and is a specialist in new music (www.angusmcphersonflute.com). Nicole Samsa is an accomplished flautist and current flute student at Sydney Conservatorium and Isaac Lombard is talented flautist and composer.
